May Update, 2014

Pre-First Crush Winery… Last standing at the end of a long crush day, 2010.

Greetings First Crushers,

Diane and I just returned from a wonderful week in Aruba filled with sun, fun and relaxation. We did not realize until day two of our time-off just

April Update, 2014

April 15, 2014

Happy Passover and Happy Easter First Crushers…

Our New Digs…
As many of you have seen, First Crush Winery has expanded to include a contiguous third unit at Olde Depot Industrial. As I write this, it is receiving a cooling system to refrigerate half of the new space. I have constructed an insulated partition and a 6″ thick garage door to separate this cooler space from the front space. The front of the unit will store our larger equipment… the fork lift, firstcrusher-1, firstcrusher-2, Presszilla, many pallets of empty bottles and our new First Crush 1949 Mercury 1-ton pickup. The truck will not be used for dump runs, hauling grape stems or fermented grape skins. I am learning you can even have a first crush on a truck. That last sentence is calling for fictional authorship privilege, but I will leave it right there. Currently, carved signage is being made to show off our brand at special Cape events.

March Update 2014

March 30, 2014

Dear COOPeratives and non-COOPeratives…

Please notice that I did not write un-COOPeratives.  Let’s define a First Crush non-COOPerative as a person or persons that are on my requested email update list, possibly even a previous COOPerative, but have not to date notified me to reserve their 2013 vintage wine.  I thank all that have been COOPeratives to date!  It is a great assist for me to get a feeling for how much of our wine is to be reserved for our “first dibs” COOP

First Social Update 2014

January 23, 2014

January Social Reminder…
Hope everyone is shoveled out. I think we deserve a winter distraction. Our first social of the year will be held as planned this Saturday, 4-6. Please park and walk into the winery with caution due to the possibility of slippery pavement. Dress is always casual. The temperature in the winery will be cooler than a typical home or business. I will warm it up to 62 just for you. Friends

January Update, 2014

January 9, 2014

Shiver my timbers…
An appropriate Americanism for the single digit temperatures we are enjoying this week on Cape Cod. Did any of you see the news reports recently on TV of a cup of water thrown in the air and it instantly turns to powdery snow? It reminded me of my old chemistry days when we learned this potential outcome during unusually cold weather. For this to happen, you must use hot water, and the reason for the sudden crystallization is

First Crush Holiday Gift

December 19, 2013

Tis the Season… A few members have asked recently me if I could put something together for a holiday gift idea. I propose a two bottle set of First Crush wine, accompanied by two First Crush wine glasses bundled in a logo adorned cloth wine carrier pouch. Wine selection is between any of our five wines. Pricing is $38.00 and credit cards are accepted. I will be at the winery this Friday, December 20th 8-3 bottling wine (God help me…

December 2013, First Crush Update

December 4, 2013

Greetings to my wine enriched elves, To me, it seems like yesterday that we were dealing with the apprehension of our first vintage with all of the unknowns associated with new equipment and thousands of gallons of unproven young wine. Happy New Year! Here we are one year later, and again we have thousands of gallons of wine only eight weeks from grape but the anxiety level is much less. It appears at this early time that our 2013 efforts

Spring has sprung!

Let’s hope that comment is not an April fool’s remorse. Old man winter, please spare us a spring surprise. It has been a while since my last post.
